We recommended you spend approximately 110 hours of your time studying for the Substance Abuse and Drugs Awareness course. The pace of study is completely up to you. To give an example, if you dedicate 2 hours a week to the course it would take you a year to complete but if you could spare 4 hours a week you could complete it in six months.

Unit 2 - The history of drug use: Getting help - Tackling drug use - Helping someone with a drug problem – Emergencies - Is my child using drugs? - Why do we use drugs?
Unit 3 - Effects of drugs: Pharmacology - Quantity of the drug – Consumption - Short term/ long terms dangers - Smoking, snorting, injecting and inhaling – Overdose – Impurities Damage – Expectations - Previous experiences – Moods - Physical health - Mental health - Body weight - Tolerance to drugs - Problematic drug use - Hierarchy of harm.
Unit 4 - Models of care: Drug treatment provision - Harm reduction services – Counselling – Funding.
Unit 5 - Substance misuse and awareness: Detoxification - Structured day programmes - Residential rehabilitation - 12 STEPS - Substitute drug therapies.

At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Level 3 Award in Substance Abuse and Drugs Awareness. Plus a Start Learning Diploma.
