To study the course, you must be aged over 16 and be educated to at least GCSE level.
At Start Learning we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and study further, so we try to keep our entry requirements to a minimum.

We recommended you spend approximately 180 hours of your time studying for the Electrical Installation and Design course. The pace of study is completely up to you. To give an example, if you dedicate 4 hours a week to the course it would take you a year to complete but if you could spare 8 hours a week you could complete it in six months.
You can work at your own pace but you must complete the course within the 12 month period.

Unit 1 – Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction and the Built Environment: Understand the general and specific responsibilities both of employers and employees under current health, safety and welfare legislation – Identify workplace hazards, persons who may be affected by such hazards and the potential consequences of accidents – Site access and The Construction Regulations 2007 – Know how to use risk assessments in appropriate formats – Use workplace health and safety policies to recommend control measures, reduce risk and meet legal requirements.
Unit 2 – Electrical Principles in Building Services Engineering: Apply appropriate units, measures describing quantities of electrical energy – Basic electrical quantities and how the use and behaviour of simple electrical components affects these quantities and use circuit theorems to determine such quantities – Solve problems relating to the use of single-phase and three-phase circuits and undertake simple circuit design projects to meet a specification – Understand the principles of transformers and rotating machines and demonstrate practical applications in industry.
Unit 3 – Electrical Installation Standards and Components in Building Services: Interpret Regulations and Legislation related to electrical installations – Understanding Wiring Techniques – Flexible cords, extra low and low voltage cables for power, audio and high frequency transmission – Understanding earthing and bonding principles – Determine the need for final circuits and circuit protection – The requirements for special installations.

BTEC level 3 Advanced Certificate in Electrical Installation and Design.
Edexcel registration fees are not included in the cost of the course and you send your registration fee in within 28 days of enrolling on the course, currently £80.00.

This course is marked through a process of continuous assessment guided by your tutor following BTEC guidelines. This means that your qualification will be awarded according to your performance on assessments rather than by taking an exam.
